Devin is the brash New York (Brooklyn raised) child of the punk romanticism of The Clash, John Lennon’s spirited vocals and the heartbreak romanticism of 50’s doo-wop, a fitting rebirth of the NYC cool that was The Strokes Is This It . Check out “New Horrors” a frenzied tempo-changing burning croon about the fear of new found romance from  his debut album Romancing.

Romancing was released on Frenchkiss Records April 10th, 2012.

“She’s So Scandalous” off of Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears sophomore LP, Scandalous is a heavy groove that melds a fusion of funk, blues, and a little bit of reggae.  The drumming on this one is phenomenal, a gritty hi-hat and stick-snare shuffle with some dubby reverb, while the bass does a nimble blues groove as this song builds and builds, anchored by the soul shouting of Joe Lewis himself. Based out of Austin, TX, Scandalous was produced by fellow Austinite Jim Eno of Spoon, but this band really knows how to bring the funk.

Tennis is a trio led by husband and wife duo Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley who caught the indie music world with the cheeky delight of their first album, Cape Dory  an album both written during, and inspired by a sailing trip up and down the East Coast of the United States.  The album was full of breezy summer melodies and bright ear candy and they seemed ill equipped to progress any further as a band.  Enter Young and Old , the 2012 follow-up produced by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys. It’s a match made in heaven, as both Alaina Moore’s Billie Holiday-esque coo and Riley’s melodies find a perfect match in Carney’s 60’s garage psychedelia inspired production. Check out “Traveling” and you’ll be sure to fall in love

Even if you weren’t lucky enough to be growing up in the 80’s, “Vicki” by The Tins off of their upcoming debut (which was funded by a Kickstarter pledge) The Moon Doesn’t Last for Long will give you that dream. The song stars with some garage riffing before the song envelops you in its bittersweet organ and driving guitar lines. There’s hooks a plenty here and the tongue in cheek bridge bears repeating. Can’t wait to hear the full album, but for now you can stream “Vicki” below. Can’t get enough
